The Telephone Consumer Protection Act

The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA): The TCPA was passed by Congress in 1991 and specifically prohibited any calls using an automatic telephone dialing system. This was originally directed to businesses using robocalls and predictive dialers directed at your landlines and cell phones which could call thousands of people at once which is extremely annoying. The TCPA also applies to unsolicited text messages that are sent to hundreds of cell phones at once. The TCPA forces the spammer to pay each consumer $500 – $1500 per unsolicited text message or robocall.
